1st Grade

EAROBICS

This is a phonetically based software program that emphasizes the following reading skills.

  • Auditory Memory for:
    • 1 syllable words
    • digits
    • speech sounds
  • Blending for:
    • making compound words
    • forming 2 and 3 syllable words
    • turning 2 and 3 speech sounds into words
    • forming 4 speech sounds into words
  • Recognizing all vowel and consonant sounds in the beginning, medial, and final position of words
  • Identify rhyming and non-rhyming words
  • Phonological Segmentation for:
    • counting number of non-speech sounds
    • counting number of speech sounds
    • syllables in words
    • speech sounds in words
  • Auditory and Phoneme Discrimination for:
    • 1, 2, 3, and 4 step vowel pairs
    • syllable patterns

READING EGGS

This is a web-based program that incorporates a wide variety of effective research-based activities within a highly motivational framework that keeps students engaged. The program uses the following reading instructional elements.

  • Early focus on phonemic awareness and alphabetic principle
  • Building instant recall of high-frequency words
  • Building fluency with repetition of activities and rereading of texts
  • Variety of instructional formats
  • Wide range of motivational elements
  • Vocabulary activities that build understanding
  • Comprehension strategies that ensure reading for meaning

SUCCESSMAKER / READING

SuccessMaker Reading is an interactive multimedia approach to reading, designed to provide supplemental instruction and practice in essential and critical reading skills. This software emphasizes the following areas:

  • Concepts in Print
  • Phonological Awareness
  • Fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Comprehension

SUCCESSMAKER / MATH

This is a standards-based interactive multimedia course designed to develop and maintain fundamental concepts taught in Mathematics in grades 1 – 3. This program focuses on the following seven mathematics strands:

  • Number Sense and Operations
  • Data Analysis
  • Probability and Discrete Math
  • Geometry
  • Measurement
  • Patterns, Algebra, and Functions
  • Fluency (Speed Games)

RAZ-KIDS

Raz-Kids is a web-based program designed to increase reading development in the following areas:

  • Vocabulary
  • Comprehension
  • Fluency

Students work at their own book levels as they listen to the book, read the book, and then answer questions about the book. Questions from the book are based on the following:

  • Vocabulary
  • Main Idea / Details
  • Author’s Purpose
  • Classifying Information
  • Sequencing
  • Recalling Information
  • Cause / Effect
  • Comparing / Contrasting
  • Drawing Conclusions
  • Inference

Students are rewarded at the end of testing if they have missed no more than two questions. Students earn “stars” to use to buy items for their Raz-Rocket Room or Robot Builder on the spaceship.
